Frequently asked questions

The useful answers, without the runaround.

Search by topic or open any question below.

What is ZAR Rewards?

ZAR Rewards is an independent digital wallet for the loyalty, store and membership cards you already use. It helps you organise and present card barcodes; it is not itself a retailer loyalty programme.

Is ZAR Rewards free?

The launch version is free to download and use. If paid features are introduced later, their price and terms will be shown before you choose them.

Do I need an account?

No. The core wallet is guest-first, so you can add and use cards without registering. An optional account enables features such as cloud backup and multi-device sync.

How do I add a card?

Select Add card, choose a listed programme and scan its barcode or enter the number manually. If the programme is not listed, use the custom-card option where available.

Will my cards work without mobile data?

Cards already saved to your device are designed to remain available offline. Account sync and backup naturally require a connection.

What if a barcode will not scan at checkout?

Open the full-screen card, increase screen brightness, remove glare and hold the phone steady. Confirm the number matches the original card. Scanner acceptance remains controlled by the retailer.

Why does ZAR Rewards request camera access?

The camera is requested only when you choose to scan a barcode. Scanning is designed to happen on your device, and ZAR Rewards does not need access to your programme password.

Can ZAR Rewards show, earn or redeem my points?

Not in the first release. Official programmes control balances, earning and redemption. ZAR Rewards currently focuses on keeping the card ready; later value features will be clearly labelled when they become available.

Is ZAR Rewards officially partnered with every programme shown?

No. ZAR Rewards is independent. Retailer and programme names belong to their respective owners, and each programme controls its own rules and acceptance.

What information is used when I sign in?

Optional sign-in may use an email address or an Apple/Google provider identifier. ZAR Rewards does not receive your Apple or Google password.

How does backup and sync work?

When you choose account-based backup, eligible wallet data is copied to protected cloud infrastructure and associated with your ZAR Rewards account so it can be restored or synced.

What should I do if my phone is lost?

Use your device platform’s lost-device controls and change access to the email or Apple/Google account used for sign-in. Contact us if you also want the ZAR Rewards account and synced data deleted.

How do I delete a card stored locally?

Open the card’s options and choose Delete. If you are signed in with sync enabled, allow the deletion to sync to your other devices before signing out.

How do I delete my account and cloud data?

Use More → Account → Delete account in a version that provides that option, or use the account-deletion request below. Guest-only users with no account can remove cards locally and uninstall the app.

No FAQ matches that search. Send us your question below.

Account and data deletion

Delete the account, not merely deactivate it.

If you created a ZAR Rewards account, you may request permanent deletion of the account and its associated cloud data.

  1. In the app, open More → Account → Delete account where that option is available.
  2. Alternatively, use the request button on this page from the email address connected to your account.
  3. We may ask you to verify ownership before deletion.

Deletion covers your account profile and synced loyalty-card data. We may retain limited records where reasonably necessary for security, fraud prevention, legal obligations or to document completion of the request. Guest-only data stored solely on your phone is removed by deleting it in the app or uninstalling the app.
