1. Acceptance of these terms
These Terms of Service are an agreement between you and ZAR Rewards (Pty) Ltd, a company registered in the Republic of South Africa. By downloading, accessing or using ZAR Rewards, you agree to these terms and acknowledge our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
If you use ZAR Rewards on behalf of an organisation, you confirm that you are authorised to accept these terms for that organisation.
2. What ZAR Rewards provides
ZAR Rewards is an independent digital wallet that helps you organise and present loyalty, store and membership cards. The app works fully without an account. If you create an account, you may actively sync cards to your account and restore them after signing in on another device.
Creating or signing in to an account does not automatically upload your cards. Card syncing takes place only when you choose “Sync cards”.
If you separately enable store detection and grant device permission, the app may use Google Maps Platform or Places to identify the store or nearby stores and suggest a relevant card. Location access is optional and can be withdrawn at any time.
Features may differ by device, operating system, app version or location. Descriptions of planned or experimental features do not promise that a feature will launch or remain available.
3. Eligibility
You must be legally capable of agreeing to these terms. If you are under 18, use the service only with the involvement and permission of a parent, guardian or other person authorised by law. You must also comply with the age and eligibility rules of every loyalty programme whose card you add.
4. Accounts and cloud sync
An account is optional. ZAR Rewards works fully without one, and card syncing only takes place when you actively choose it.
You are responsible for keeping your sign-in details secure and for the accuracy of the card details you enter. Do not share authentication codes, passwords or device-unlock credentials, and promptly notify us if you suspect unauthorised use.
ZAR Rewards stores loyalty membership numbers so you can present them at a till. We are not a party to your relationship with any loyalty programme, and we cannot access, change, redeem or recover the points held in those programmes.
Cloud sync is a convenience, not a guaranteed backup service. We take reasonable care to keep synced cards available, but you should not rely on it as your only copy of a membership number.
We may send authentication, password-reset, security, support, legal and material service messages to the email address connected to your account. These operational messages are part of providing and protecting the account. Marketing or product-news emails require a separate choice or another permission recognised by law. Creating an account does not automatically subscribe you to marketing, and every marketing message will provide a practical way to unsubscribe.
5. Cards and information you add
You retain your rights in information you add to ZAR Rewards. You give us a limited, non-exclusive permission to process that information only as needed to provide, secure and support the service according to our Privacy Policy.
You confirm that you are authorised to use every card or identifier you add, and that the information is accurate and lawful. Do not add another person’s card without permission. Do not store payment-card numbers, PINs, programme passwords or unlawful content in the app.
You are responsible for checking that a displayed barcode or identifier matches the official card before using it and for keeping another record of any membership number that is important to you.
6. Acceptable use
You may not use ZAR Rewards to:
- copy, forge, counterfeit, trade or misuse a loyalty card or identifier;
- access another person’s account, points, benefits or personal information without authority;
- commit fraud, evade programme rules or facilitate unlawful activity;
- probe, disrupt, overload, reverse engineer or bypass the security of the service, except where a restriction is prohibited by law;
- upload malicious code or interfere with another person’s use; or
- misrepresent an affiliation with ZAR Rewards, a retailer or a loyalty programme.
We may investigate suspected misuse and restrict access where reasonably necessary to protect users, the service or third parties.
7. Independent loyalty programmes
ZAR Rewards is independent. It is not the issuer, administrator or guarantor of the third-party loyalty programmes displayed in the app or discussed on the website unless a specific partnership is clearly stated.
All retailer, bank, fuel, travel, membership and loyalty-programme names, logos, icons, trade marks, service marks and other brand assets are the property of their respective owners. ZAR Rewards claims no ownership of them. Their use in the app or website is solely to identify a supported programme and help users select and present their own cards.
The display of a third-party name or logo does not state or imply sponsorship, endorsement, authorisation, partnership or affiliation with ZAR Rewards unless we expressly identify an official partnership. We do not grant you any right to reproduce or use a third party’s marks.
Each programme’s official terms govern membership, earning, expiry, redemption, discounts, tiers, exclusions, card replacement, balances and acceptance. Programme information can change without notice, and the programme remains the authoritative source. You should confirm important information directly with the official programme before relying on it.
A retailer may decline a digital barcode, require an original card or identification, change its scanners or suspend a programme. ZAR Rewards cannot control those decisions.
A rights owner with a concern about a mark or programme reference can contact hello@zarewards.co.za. We will review a properly supported request and may correct, restrict or remove the affected material where appropriate.
8. No payment or stored-value service
ZAR Rewards is not a bank account, payment wallet, credit product or stored-value facility. The current service does not hold funds, process payments, transfer money or provide cash-out. A loyalty point or reward shown by a third party is governed by that programme and is not money held by ZAR Rewards.
9. ZAR Rewards ownership and licence
ZAR Rewards (Pty) Ltd owns the ZAR Rewards business, app, website, software, original design, original text and ZAR Rewards brand, except for third-party material expressly identified in these terms. These assets are protected by applicable intellectual-property law.
“Making cents of your point®” is a South African registered trade mark, trade mark number 2023/30886. Nothing in these terms transfers any right in the ZAR Rewards name, Heritage A, registered slogan or other ZAR Rewards branding.
We grant you a limited, personal, revocable, non-exclusive and non-transferable licence to use the app for its intended purpose under these terms. This licence does not transfer ownership or permit commercial resale, copying or creation of a competing derivative service.
If you send suggestions or feedback, you allow us to use them without payment or obligation to you, provided we handle any personal information according to the Privacy Policy.
10. App stores and third-party services
The service relies on or may link to third parties, including Supabase for optional authentication and cloud sync; Apple, Google and Facebook for sign-in when selected; Google Maps Platform or Places for optional store detection; app stores, device platforms, email providers and official loyalty programmes. Their own terms and privacy policies apply to the parts of the service they operate. We are not responsible for third-party content, outages or decisions outside our reasonable control.
We may introduce Google Firebase in a future app version for disclosed functions such as diagnostics, performance, analytics, notifications or app infrastructure. Firebase is not promised or treated as active merely because it is named in these terms. If enabled, the Privacy Policy and applicable app-store disclosures will be updated before materially different processing begins.
If you downloaded the app from an app store, you also agree to that store’s applicable usage rules. The app store is not responsible for providing ZAR Rewards support unless its rules expressly say otherwise.
11. Availability, offline use and updates
Cards saved on your device are designed to remain available offline, but availability can still be affected by your device, operating system, storage, battery, security settings, app updates or data loss. Account and card-sync features require a compatible connection and service availability.
We may update, repair, suspend or change the service. Keep a record or physical copy of any card that is important to you. You are responsible for installing updates and maintaining a compatible, secure device.
12. Ending use and deleting an account
You may stop using the service at any time. You may delete synced cards or your account at any time from within the app. To delete the account and all synced cards, open More → Account → Delete account. Guest users can delete cards locally and uninstall the app. Help is also available at zarewards.com/help/#delete-account.
We may suspend or end access where you materially breach these terms, create a security risk, misuse the service or where continuation is unlawful. Where reasonably possible, we will give notice and an opportunity to remedy the issue.
Terms that by their nature should continue after use ends—including ownership, disclaimers, lawful retention and dispute provisions—will survive.
13. Disclaimers
ZAR Rewards is provided with reasonable care, but to the maximum extent permitted by law, the service is provided “as is” and “as available”. We do not promise uninterrupted access, error-free scanning, permanent data retention, retailer acceptance, or the accuracy or availability of any programme’s balance, discount or benefit.
My ZAR values are estimates only. Conversion methods and rates are compiled from programme information that was publicly available when the relevant app build, conversion dataset or content update was published. Programmes may change rates, tiers, thresholds, expiry rules, eligible transactions, redemption options, exclusions, rounding methods, fees or terms at any time and without notice to us.
We take reasonable care when compiling conversion information, but we do not assert or guarantee that any calculation is complete, current or 100% accurate. A displayed rand amount is not a live balance, cash held by ZAR Rewards, a valuation, financial advice or a promise of what you will receive. User-entered balances, delayed updates and programme-specific conditions may cause the result to differ materially from an official balance or redemption value.
The relevant loyalty programme’s official app, statement, website, rules and customer-service channels remain the source of truth. Check directly with the programme before making a purchase, transfer, expiry or redemption decision. ZAR Rewards cannot redeem, recover, transfer or guarantee third-party points unless a future authorised service expressly says otherwise.
Website guides are general information, not financial, legal or tax advice. Official programme sources should be used for decisions about rewards, eligibility and redemption.
14. Limitation of liability
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limits rights you have under the Consumer Protection Act, POPIA or other applicable law.
Subject to that protection, ZAR Rewards will not be liable for indirect or consequential loss, decisions made in reliance on an estimated conversion, lost points or discounts, retailer refusal, third-party programme changes, device loss, connectivity failure or loss caused by unauthorised use of your device or account where that loss was not caused by our unlawful conduct.
You remain responsible for protecting your device, checking important card details and maintaining an alternative way to access important programme information.
15. South African law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa. Before starting formal proceedings, please contact ZAR Rewards (Pty) Ltd so we can try to resolve the issue in good faith. Nothing here prevents you from approaching a regulator, ombud, consumer body or court with jurisdiction.
16. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms when the service, law or our operating arrangements change. The current version will be posted here with a revised “Last updated” date. If a material change requires notice or renewed acceptance, we will provide it through the app, website or another appropriate channel.
17. Contact us

A request for information can be submitted to hello@zarewards.co.za care of the Information Officer by submission of the PAIA Request Form, which can be downloaded here.
